The TikTok Trend

A few TikToks tell the experiences of those who had tried doing this. Though it’s unclear exactly when this trend began. One comes from @valeriagreenz, who stated on Twitter that she drank 64 ounces of pineapple juice before removing her wisdom teeth.

On the video, you can see her with gauze in her mouth after the surgery, driving her car, hanging out in a park, smiling, and posing for photos the following day while her face appears intact.

She appeared OK in one of the follow-up photos. The photo had comments saying, “Didn’t you just get your wisdom teeth removed and you’re not swollen at all because you drank a…ton of pineapple juice.”

Mackenzie Fuhrman, another TikTok user, wrote a post about her experience consuming pineapple juice before removing her wisdom teeth. She noted that she “researched” this and discovered that “pineapple juice can work because it has anti-inflammatory properties…but, we’ll see tomorrow.” She added, “Clearly, I don’t have anything to compare it to, but if I’m not in a lot of pain or I don’t have a lot of swelling, then I’m going to consider it a success.”

After surgery, Fuhrman appears tired in the video, but she claimed to have “zero discomforts” and “little swelling” at the time. Fuhrman assessed her pain as “one out of 10” on the second day, and by the third, she felt “fantastic”. She then declared that she had succeeded.

Although pineapple juice appears to have reduced swelling in some cases. It may not be effective in all cases and shouldn’t be used as a standard treatment.

How Effective is Pineapple Juice for Wisdom Teeth?

If you drink pineapple juice both before and after getting your wisdom teeth out, it can help to reduce swelling and inflammation related to them. In two studies, researchers gave individuals who had wisdom teeth removed bromelain, a proteolytic enzyme found in pineapple juice. The results indicated that it did lessen post-surgery swelling.

In the first trial, they discovered that giving patients bromelain for seven days decreased edema and inflammation following wisdom tooth extraction in 28 out of 40 cases.

According to the results of the second trial, bromelain did not lessen swelling but did lessen inflammation. The lowering of pain was unaffected.

So, after removing your wisdom teeth, pineapple juice can assist with swelling and inflammation. However, this is not due to the juice itself but instead because of its bromelain. Since bromelain has fibrinolytic, antiedematous, antithrombotic, and anti-inflammatory properties. It appears to have a wide range of advantages when taken as a supplement.

Also, pineapple juice won’t mend a fractured jaw resulting from removing a wisdom tooth or another cause. Surgery is needed to reduce a fracture. This treatment often takes place in a hospital and involves both professional and physical assistance.

Should You Have Pineapple Juice Both Before And After Getting Your Wisdom Teeth Out?

Even though pineapple juice effectively treats wisdom tooth removal symptoms, dentists do not advise taking it. The rationale is owing to the drawbacks of ingesting so much juice, which include dental decay and potentially delayed wound healing.

Pineapple Juice’s Limitations in Wisdom Tooth Recovery

You would be better off eating the pineapple fruit directly rather than drinking pineapple juice, which has additions like added sugar.

Additionally, as health experts only advise consuming up to 8 ounces of pineapple juice daily. We do not advise consuming 64 ounces as the TikTok videos recommended.

Too much pineapple juice consumption can have adverse effects such as bloating, blood sugar increases, upset stomach, and nausea.

This could be especially hazardous if you already have a medical problem like diabetes. Additionally, sugar is bad for the enamel of your teeth.

You should consult your dentist beforehand if you want to try this experiment. They can provide different kinds of relief and are there to assist you in managing your pain and discomfort as you recuperate.

Is there a More Effective Remedy for Wisdom Teeth than Drinking Pineapple Juice?

A Bromelain supplement will be a better choice if you want to avoid drinking pineapple juice altogether. Just to emphasize, the juice’s bromelain content was the source of all the benefits for wisdom teeth.

Additionally, you might need to make additional dental appointments merely to have all of the cavities caused by the pineapple treated.

Final Thoughts

We conclude that bromelain supplements are better when wisdom teeth are removed.

Speaking with your dentist is the best course of action in this situation. Your dentist can assist you in finding alternative methods of pain management if you are hesitant to use painkillers, even over-the-counter ones.
